12th & Porter Show Flyer

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Client: PM Artist Management
Date: March 23rd, 2011
Services: Layout & Typography

A few details about the project:
A dual cd-release show for two Nashville bands, and a headliner for a show in April. Utilizing vibrant yellow and black on a dirty grunge background, the indie style of music is reflected in the composition of the work. Juxtaposed and massively bolded text really draw viewers to the poster.

StiffsNotes: Life Lies – Book series and website

Sunday, December 5th, 2010

Client: Student Work
Date: December 1st, 2010
Services: Publication Design, Typography, Web Design & Development, Stickers

A few details about the project:
StiffsNotes is a fictitious company dedicated to providing insight to life’s poor decision making. The two books I’ve created involve stereotypes of common college folk and their dating rituals. It is meant to bring smiles to faces, not wipe them off. The books are funny, thought-provoking, and partially true. Each contains 22-25 types of personalities. One book male, one book female, and are being raffled off on the website I’ve created to market the site.

You may notice a resemblance to CliffsNotes, and that was intentional, but not to violate any copyrights. It’s an iconic cover for helpful tips, and I felt it was appropriate to mirror that for this book series. The typography is solid, but tacky looking, and the website reflects that as well.

George Carlin Memorial Diagram

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

Client: Student Work
Date: November 18th, 2010
Services: Graphic Design, Typography

A few details about the project:
This project illustrates Mr. Carlin’s life in a bold, fun, and in-depth manner. The most eye-catching feature of the poster would be the mouth formed with brackets and parenthesis, and text blocks for teeth. This is symbolic for his facial hair later down the line in his career. All text is set in Univers (minus the text in his “beard” which is Bebas) and varying weights are utilized to demonstrate hierarchy in design and bring out the most important events in his lifetime. In the background you may have noticed some naughty words. The first seven naughty words that were not allowed to be said on TV or radio. Overall, the project encompasses a lot of data, and the challenge was to show that in an interesting fashion.

(Stop Internet) Piracy

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Client: College – Printmaking
Date: December, 22nd 2009
Services: Woodcut

A few details about the project:
A controversial topic was the aim of the project, therefore “Internet Piracy” was my choice. It has been one of those issues up in arms for quite some time, and I needed something loud to compliment the audacity of the crime. The colors Pink and Blue were chosen because they bring life to an otherwise “dark” image of a skull and crossbones, plus it gives quite a visual appeal. These colors are bright. The three words STOP INTERNET PIRACY enforce the message, with a bit of comic imagery of a skull with headphones. Overall successful project, as it is one of the accepted works in the York College Student Show.

Literary Studies Brochure

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Client: College – Publication Design
Date: March 10th, 2009
Services: Layout, proofing, printing

A few details about the project:
Our Publication Design class at York College was responsible for the redesign of several brochures concerning different majors offered at York College of Pennsylvania. I chose to do the Literary Studies, as it offered a fine balance of lists and text blocks which could be turned into a modular grid based layout. That was the underlying goal for most of us, to establish a grid system to future proof the design. Also, another student in our class was selected to do a redesign of a different major using our grid system, hence the importance of modularity.

The Center – Newsletter

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Client: College – Publication Design
Date: February 17th, 2009
Services: Design, proofing, printing

A few details about the project:
A fictional company, “The Center” asked our Publication class to design their monthly newsletter in a compact, self-mailer utilizing only 2 PMS colors and a grid system. Printed on an 8.5×11 and folded to a quarter of the size, the newsletter was sure to catch attention, and provide all of the information in an organized fashion.

Paramore Type Project – Poster & Text

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Client: College – CGI
Date: October, 10th 2007
Services: Design & frame

A few details about the project:
The idea behind this assignment was to portray a song in a visual way, using only the lyrics and one color print job. I chose Paramore’s “Misery Business” and laid out a poster showing the chaos which is evident in the lyrics, but also showing the subtle structure of the repeating text as the foundation on which a song is built. In the alternate screenshots, the lyrics are interpreted in as close to a literal sense as possible (to me at least), where it almost feels personified.

Crowd Control – Promo Poster Design

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Client: Crowd Control
Date: July 16th, 2008
Services: Photo processing, poster design

A few details about the project:
A promotional poster done for the band which can be printed out at 17″x22″ size. the image was captured in front of a green screen and post processing was done to finalize the image. Included at the bottom (in an alternate version) is the bands myspace address where their latest music can be heard.

Graduation Invitation – Red Carpet Theme

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Client: Kings Park Grad. Student
Date: June 3rd, 2008
Services: Design, proofing

A few details about the project:
The party for this young graduating student was themed to simulate a red carpet. I was asked to design something to fit within those circumstances, and I believe I surpassed the expectations of the client. I decided not to do a typical camera on the front of a regular card, but created individual “admission” tickets to the party which were collected at the door. The ticket mirrored the information on the invite, but in a more ticket friendly way.

Prime Time Preschool – Brochure

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Client: Prime Time Preschool
Date: June 2nd, 2008
Services: Layout & proofing

A few details about the project:
A tri-fold brochure for a local preschool in my hometown. It was a complete revamp of the previous one page ad for the company. This threw a bit of life into the content and showed pictures of some of the children, rather than just text.

Rules of Type – Self-Mailer

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Client: College – CGII
Date: April 4th, 2008
Services: E-commerce, back-end development, site design, identity design

A few details about the project:
A self mailer with attitude. This giant fold out self-mailer sizes in at two by three feet. It is enormous. On the back is a gigantic flowchart showcasing what not to do with typography in a humorous manner. The strong yellow black and white color scheme is evident and varying screens of those colors are also included. Pay attention and follow all the folds, because when its in your hand, it would be silly not to open it.
